Our (not so fun) eventful afternoon!

24 April 2010

We.. well I learned the hard way. For those of you that don't know I was a total beebee when H left for BMT and traded his Ford Focus SVT (which was fast and he put a lot of money in) for a 07 VW Passat. I came up with every reason why we needed a new "family" car. (We aren't having kids for another 5-6 years.)

I remember Carmax being such a pleasant experience. I was in and out of there within 3 hours. No haggling, no nasty salesmen and everything was done right in front of me on the computer. I loved it and recommended everyone to buy from there. I fell for the warranty because for the year the car did have quite a bit of miles. I had to bring it in a month or two after I bought it and had another pleasant encounter. I dropped it off early one morning, got a ride home and was called around 12 to come back because they needed to give me a rental car. Great no problem. They had it there waiting for me and all I did was sign my name and leave. Nothing was paid out of my pocket.

Fast forward just over a year to today. We are on the freeway coming back from looking at a 2nd vehicle for Eric and all of a sudden there is this loud noise and then our car sounds like a vato lovin' rice burner. Eric gets off at the next exit and guess what street we're on?! Ya, Central Ave. in the heart of the ghetto. We pull into a store so Eric can pop the hood and well everything is covered in plastic so he asks how far away is Carmax? Luckily it was fairly close to where we were (which is far from our house). We putt our way to Carmax doin 20 mph only to find out that the Service Dept. is closed and there is nothing they can do for us. I immediately get pissed off and tell them then we need a rental car. The lady gives me the number for enterprise and says you can call that number, but your warranty only reimburses you. Effing awesome. We call Enterprise and get a reservation and then say we need to be picked up (remembering the korny commercials "pick Enterprise, we'll pick you up!"), uhm, bullshit. The manager at carmax got one of the sales people to take us to the airport which is where the only Enterprise in the whole city of Tampa was open. We spend 25 minutes trying to find the office to be told that they can't rent to us because we don't have a credit card. Are you effing kidding me?! So because we are trying to restore damage we've done and not get another CC we can't get a car?! At this point I was about in tears because I was so upset. We speak to 2 different managers to pretty much tell us we are SOL.

Luckily I met an awesome girl out here, Brittany and her husband, Kyle who were willing to rescue us and take Eric to his weekend duty. On top of that Kyle is going back at midnight to pick him up. I am so grateful for them and honestly have no idea what we would have done with out them.

Now we just need to figure out what we're going to do tomorrow because he has to work again tomorrow and then we both have to work on Monday. The earliest they will be able to look at out car is Monday.

This is the worst time this could happen. But moral of the story the warranty is a waste of money! Oh and if they don't cover this part, they will see the Mexican come out! Lol!

  4. I hate when crap like that happens. It makes me so stressed that it's hard to enjoy anything until it's taken care of. Hope it gets resolved quick!
